Just recently, I came to know of a new friend in a clinic. What started off as a simple chat became an indepth sharing of our past. It didnt take us long to realise that currently both of us have common goals, goals to surrender ourselves and our heavy burden entirely to God, to grow in our spiritual journey in seeking and reflecting the goodness of God, and to know and grow our relationship with God.
I was deeply astounded by her somewhat dreadful past yet upon turning to God, she has been blessed in many ways. She has been experiencing the grace of God upon her in terms of how God had wonderfully crafted a new path for her in her life and provided for her in many simple ways. She begun to seek God by turning to her Church New Creation, attending bible study classes, serving at her Church Ministry and reading books relating to God. Then as I shared with her my spiritual struggles, she was able to relate to it and instantly handed me a book that she has been carrying along with her . It is known as “Spiritual Warfare”, a book written by Pastor Joseph Prince of New Creation Church. Though she has not finished reading the book, she offered to lend it to me and told me to read it. Without hesitation, I started reading it the day she passed the book to me. It is a highly delightful book as it has somewhat provided me solutions when I most needed them.
Apart from reading my work journals and a mere handful of self-improvement books in my entire life, I have somehow taken an interest into reading spiritual books. They are not a direct replicate of the bible, but they are books that well relate the spiritual struggles in a Christian’s daily lives and ways that we can overcome, to the bible. These books guide us to recognising and understanding the many unexplained difficulties that we may encounter, that these are spiritual struggles that we are to live with as Christians, that we are not alone battling for God’s righteousness, and most importantly how we can overcome these struggles. Like this book “Spiritual Warfare”, it guides us to knowing and using the 7 pieces of armour that Christ has left us in enabling us to rest in His victory in times or even in moments of our struggles. The aim is to help us in growing spiritually stronger as we begin to use these pieces of armour and to rest in Christ’s victory at all times.
Personally, I find this book helpful in enabling me to cope with the lowest moments of my life, the most fragile moments that I could be easily defeated by the unnatural forces. It has helped me to be aware and be conscious of falling into the devil’s deception as I had in the past, to know it can be defeated since it has already been defeated by Christ at His crucifixion, and that there are 7 pieces of powerful armour that I can start using to be and to stay in Christ’s victory. So why choose to fall into its wicked plans again when I know that I can win and that above all, God always love, always forgive and already have amazing plans in place for me as long as I surrender myself and turn to Him fully?
